$200m KP human capital project nears completion
ISLAMABAD, Mar 18 (ABC): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is executing a project to strengthen human capital by improving health and social services across the province.
The $200-million Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Human Capital Investment Project (KPHCIP), set to complete by December 31, 2026, has made notable financial progress, with 95.1% of the total funds already disbursed, according to official documents available with Wealth Pakistan.
The project, signed on March 30, 2021, is being implemented by the Planning and Development Department.
The initiative is designed to enhance access to essential services, particularly for vulnerable and low-income populations, while supporting institutional improvements in the province’s health sector.
The project experienced initial delays related to the Project Management Unit and disruptions caused by the 2022 floods. To tackle these challenges, authorities adopted a two-step restructuring plan aimed at removing implementation bottlenecks and improving operational efficiency. The project has now regained momentum, with substantial financial utilisation indicating steady progress toward completion.
KPHCIP is part of the broader efforts the World Bank is supporting to strengthen human capital development in the province by improving the quality and accessibility of essential public services.
